Dreama Celebrates Garangao A Celebration of Heritage and Generational Joy

احتفال دريمة بالقرنقعوه فرحة التراث وبهجة الأجيال

The Orphans Care Center (Dreama), and as part of its Ramadan activities, celebrated Garangao Night, which falls on the mid-night of the holy month of Ramadan. The event aims to revive Qatari heritage and introduce children to authentic Ramadan traditions and customs. It also seeks to engage Dreama’s children in the celebration to strengthen social bonds within the community and to familiarize younger generations with their cultural and Ramadan traditions.

This celebration comes as part of Dreama’s National Identity Program, which aims to enhance children’s knowledge of their national identity and instill authentic Qatari customs and traditions in their hearts. Through the various activities provided during the event — including cultural and traditional stations and the wearing of traditional clothing — the program also connects children to their history and identity while fostering a sense of belonging to their community and its values.

The event program included a welcome speech to the attendees, along with various traditional performances reflecting Qatari folklore, as well as cultural activities highlighting the importance of preserving popular heritage and reinforcing national and cultural identity among the children.

The event featured several stations, including a traditional hospitality corner, a variety of traditional foods showcasing the richness and diversity of Qatari cuisine, and a henna station. Dreama's celebration of Garangao presents an opportunity to enhance the children's cultural awareness and introduce them to their history, thereby contributing to passing on these traditions to future generations.

Her Excellency Sheikha Najla bint Ahmed Al Thani, Executive Director of Dreama, expressed her great happiness at organizing this special Garangao celebration. She emphasized the importance of such events in strengthening social connections among community members and instilling heritage values in the younger generations. She further stressed that these events play a key role in preserving customs and traditions that tie individuals to their deep-rooted past and contribute to building a strong cultural identity for future generations.

At the conclusion of the event, special thanks were extended to all participants and supporting entities, including Doha Insurance Group, Ahli Bank, Qatar National Bank, and Ooredoo, reaffirming the importance of continuing such events that promote and preserve cultural heritage. They also expressed pride in the community's collective participation, reflecting their deep commitment to safeguarding and enriching Qatar’s cultural heritage.
